Shari Olson | Kiln Works

May 7, 2016

This little project has been an ongoing one for a few months now and it's finally time to share! This is Shari Olson! She is an Atlanta artist that creates hand thrown pottery. She is talented and fun and it all shows in her art. I would describe her style as whimsical and oh so detailed. I really love everything but my favorite might just be her little bird houses. I'd love a whole garden of them!

The first time we met, I came to her studio one evening and spent our time doing her creative headshots and watching her create a simple bowl. I'm always amazed how easy potters make it look working on their wheel. It's messy and beautiful and awesome! We also attempted photographing some of her pieces but quickly realized that artificial light and her super shiny glaze were not friends. I gave it a go but decided to visit her studio again. The next time we met, we photographed a ton more of her work in natural light and oh my, what a difference! Her glazes are sooooooooooooo shiny!! I love it! I also got a little treat by seeing the bowl she created that first evening as a completed piece. Pretty cool! And to finish it all up, I visited her space at the Inman Park Festival this past weekend to take a few photos of her booth and displays in action. It was one of the first really hot days so far this year and there were people everywhere! I loved the atmosphere and energy and the art! It was a fun day and if you'd like to see some of Shari's work in person, here are just a few upcoming events to look for Shari at with her functional fun pottery.
