Good Questions to ask your photographer!

Updated: Feb 11

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE?

This might be the best question to ask your photographer! I personally enjoy taking a lovely mixture of lifestyle and posed photos to hopefully capture your family in the most beautiful way. I will lightly pose you all and then give you guidance from there. Play and laugh with your kids, look at each other and kiss, snuggle and whisper a secret. In my mind, it's up to me to inspire closeness and real happiness during your session. I want you to see the unique beauty in your own family when you look at your photos. My editing style is warm skin, true colors and white whites. I love soft colors, every type of flower and my favorite photos are the ones that aren't directed by me. They are the interactions that happen without a thought and I just get lucky enough to notice them. That's the good stuff.

HOW MANY IMAGES WILL I GET AND WHEN WILL I GET THEM?

Your session will include a minimum of 75 print perfect images unless you have requested a mini session. If we're having a ton of fun, you will probably see more images in your gallery but never less. You will receive your slideshow within 3 weeks of your session and it will be available to you for 5 days. Within that 5 days, you will have the option to purchase a collection that may include a print credit, albums, a downloadable copy of your slideshow and digitals for sharing.

WHAT IS A PRINT PERFECT IMAGE?

Every image you receive in your gallery will be color corrected and ready for professional printing. I also do some light editing if there is a distracting element to your image or background but I don't go overboard. You will still look like you!

DO YOU HAVE ANY LOCATION IDEAS OR DO YOU HAVE A STUDIO?

My studio is wherever I go :) Most of my family sessions are taken outside unless you have a super fun idea of your own. I'm always up for something new so don't be afraid to ask even if you don't see any examples of it. I do have lots of favorite places in and around Marietta but I do travel all around Atlanta. I can definitely give location suggestions so let me know if you like (A) flowers, fields, lots of green and picnics or (B) colors, textures, interesting architecture and sidewalks. My newborn sessions are almost always scheduled in your home spending only a few minutes outside if the weather is nice.

WHEN DO YOU SCHEDULE SESSIONS?

To capture my favorite light, I schedule all of my outdoor sessions in the morning 1-2 hours after sunrise or in the evening 3 hours before sunset. My newborn sessions are scheduled during daylight hours and around the baby's schedule. I do schedule weekday and weekend sessions. Please inquire months ahead when requesting a weekend session.

 WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?

I never overbook my dates so I always have rescheduling days available. The week before your session, I always check the weather. I swear you never know what you're really going to get in Georgia until the day of but if rain is predicted, I will call or email just to say hi and let you know I'm paying attention. If there is a high % of rain predicted a few days before your session, I will give you a few choices -  wait and talk again the morning of your session, go ahead and reschedule for a different day or go for it and plan to get soaked and play in the rain!! I understand the excitement leading up to your session but I also understand there could be the added stress of trying to plan. I always try to let you make the final decision and I will never call off your session unless it's actively raining, the sky is super dark and gloomy or if it's crazy windy. I know we both want the best experience for your session so trusting each other and making decisions together is a must!

CAN I INVITE THE GRANDPARENTS?

Yes, of course! If grandparents are in town for your new baby's arrival or if they would just like a few photos with their grandchildren, they are more than welcome to jump in for a few minutes. Same goes for pets! I don't limit the number of family members but I do typically encourage you to include just immediate family because of time constraints. If you would like an extended family session with all the aunts, uncles and cousins I'm happy to chat with you more to make sure I'm able to give you what you're really dreaming of.

WHAT IF MY BABY CRIES?

Your baby will cry so please don’t worry! I can actually promise your baby will cry during your session so we will take as many breaks as we need. A lot of our time will be spent taking adorable photos but keep in mind a lot of time will also be spent feeding, swaddling, rocking and changing your baby. Your baby is the boss today.

WHAT IF MY KIDS ARE CRAZY?

My goal is for your kids to LOVE ME by the end of your session. I always approach a session as a new friend who’s just there to play and have fun. I do have lots of patience and by staying happy and easy-going, kids typically warm up to me as soon as they know they can just be themselves. I also encourage parents to stay super easy-going. Your session doesn't have to be perfect (and I promise it won't be). It just has to be fun because the more fun we have, the more I can see your real family that I know you want to see in your photos. I know I keep saying fun, fun, fun, but having FUN is the secret!

DO YOU CHARGE TRAVEL?

My sessions are typically scheduled in and around the Atlanta area and have no travel fees. If your family session takes place outside of a 60 mile round trip from Marietta, Georgia, I can give you a custom travel quote. If your dream session is out of state or requires airfare and hotel stay, I would love to give you a custom travel quote.

HOW DO I BOOK A SESSION?

Yay! I'm so excited to meet you and your family! Send me a message HERE and tell me what you're dreaming of for your session. Once we pick a day, I just ask for a signed contract and a creative booking fee to secure your date. Once we make it official, we can start planning any details and deciding on your location.

And finally the most common question is.....

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

First, I would love to talk with you to plan a style guide for you and your family! All you have to do is answer a few fun questions like what colors you love most and I will send you a personalized style guide to follow for your session! The goal for coordinating a family is to visually break up the colors and shades so that you’re not all wearing the same color on top and bottom. For some, that may be an easy task and for others, I am here to help!! If you are 100% style confident and love planning your own outfits, Here are a few tricks!....

DO'S AND DON'TS FOR EVERYONE

DO choose clothes that show everyone's personality. It's important to choose outfits that everyone feels great in.

DO coordinate colors but DON'T get too matchy. Everyone's personality is different and your clothes should be too.

FOR MOM

DO choose your outfit first! Mom gets to pick her outfit first and then build the rest of the family’s outfits based around that. Choose something you feel beautiful in but also something that you feel free to move in.

DON'T be afraid to dress up. There is no such thing as “too dressed up” when it comes to your portrait session, so have some fun!

DO think about choosing a dress. Dresses and skirts flatter every female body, especially on camera and they bring extra movement to the photos.

DON'T forget about your cute shoes.

DO be sure to bring flats for walking from place to place if your cute shoes have heels. Your feet will thank you later!

DON'T be afraid to make a statement! Belts, bracelets and earrings bring visual interest, so choose one or two acsessories that don’t compete for attention. Fresh florals can be a really sweet touch for you or your girls as well.

DO consider choosing shades that the camera loves. Soft pinks, muted blues, light neutrals like heather gray, creams, leather brown, navy and white.

FOR DAD

DO choose long, nice fitting pants and closed-toed shoes for the most masculine look. They draw attention away from his legs and feet and place it where you want it: on his handsome face.

DON'T choose pants that are loose or baggy. Fitted dress pants or fitted colored pants look best on camera.

DO consider solid shades of gray, navy or brown that are a strong compliment to most women’s outfits.

DON'T wear sandals or old sneakers. Nice shoes compliment almost every look, even jeans!

DO stay away from shirts with big logos or words with large fonts unless it's part of a themed or styled session.

DON'T be afraid to get a little creative and add accessories! Ties, bowties, colored socks, belts, tie clips, suspenders, vests and watches are sharp compliments to any outfit for men and boys.

DO consider layers on dad. Blazers, vests and coats up the level of any look and look great on camera.

Final Note on what to wear :) I know I just gave you a lot to think about. At the end of the day though, the location you choose and the outfits you select won’t matter nearly as much as the memories you make together and that's the most important thing.
